Exciting plans are currently in the pipework for additional gym facilities on the San Pedro beach and in other neighbouring resorts along this part of the Costa del Sol. Council authorities in Marbella have asked the Junta de Andalucía (the regional government) for a licence to install beachside areas where people can exercise throughout the whole year.
Like many towns and villages in the region, San Pedro Alcántara already has the popular red and yellow exercise equipment installed in several positions along the seaside promenade. The eye catching machinery can be found consistently in use by people of all ages at any time of day, and have been a successful community project for San Pedro.
The idea to install the all-weather gymnasiums is part of plans to efficiently utilise outdoor space and to encourage a healthy lifestyle for local residents, with elements of the positive programme being implemented up until the end of 2021.The three other beaches chosen as a venue for the initiative are: Playa de Nagüeles on Marbella’s Golden Mile, Playa de la Venus in central Marbella and El Cable Beach between the resort town and the Rio Real riverbed.
More news will follow as the licence applications are processed.
