The deputy mayor of San Pedro Alcántara, Rafael Piña, together with the head of sport Joaquín Cuevas, presented the 6th edition of the Vuelta Andalucía mountain bike event and the fact that for the third consecutive year San Pedro Alcántara is hosting one of its stages on Saturday 26 May 2018.
As explained by the organizer of the event, so far there are around 400 registered participants of the Vuelta and about 30 who have chosen to participate exclusively in the stage corresponding to San Pedro Alcántara. In addition it was announced that those interested in participating who have not yet registered, may do so on the same day of the stage, before the start.
The San Pedro de la Vuelta Andalucía MTB mountain bike event is a fantastic way to highlight the ‘riches’ of the Costa del Sol in what they call the southern entrance to the Sierra de las Nieves.
The Route
Because of the rainfall registered last month, the itinerary of the route in San Pedro had to be modified, the design of which is being carried out in collaboration with the Cycling Club sampedreño 29670. The event will depart at 10:00am from the Sports Pavilion Elena Benítez, at Fuente Nueva, and the first riders are expected to reach the finish line between 12 noon and 12:30pm, with the last participants coming home around 2:30pm.
This year there will be a mobile application available for Android users under the name ‘Vuelta Andalucía MTB’ with additional information on each of the stages together with classifications, photographs and even monitoring of the cyclists themselves. In addition, signed agreements have been extended to give additional coverage beyond the usual Teledeporte and Canal Sur with coverage also on EuroSport, a channel broadcast in more than 60 countries.
Finally, Piña has encouraged the cyclists in the area to participate in the event and the general public to enjoy the good cycling and a fabulous day out.
