A ‘new wave’ of bars and restaurants has hit San Pedro in the past few years, and this is one that seems to be standing the test of time. Opened in 2015, the idea is a seemingly simple one: an international menu, a varied choice of cocktails coupled with a pool table and some TV screens. So far, so typical…
However, where Urban has managed to attract a regular clientele is where so many fall down. Service is quick, pleasant and efficient. Glasses rarely mount up on tables. The screens showing football and rugby could be off-putting for those who don’t want to watch TV in a bar, however the sound is at a discreet level and easy to ignore.
The menu, while not setting the culinary world alight with its inventiveness, nevertheless is varied and well done. The last time we were there we had mini-cheeseburgers that are freshly made and served with aioli instead of mayonnaise and perfectly cooked fat chips. A delicious Pad Thai is served in portions almost too big to finish, while the batter for the large fillet of cod used in the fish and chips is beautifully light and crispy. Prices are also reasonable – €11,50 for the fish and chips for example.
The bar area is spacious and there is plenty of seating around the pool table. Outside, there is also a seating area with heating for the cooler winter months. The wide cocktail selection is a definite attraction – or simply work your way through the gin menu – the Puerto de Indias strawberry gin from Seville is a personal favourite!
