Updating of fountains

San Pedro Alcántara is to launch a plan to make its ornamental fountains more beautiful and attractive to the benefit of tourists, visitors and locals.

The Townhall of San Pedro Alcántara has put in place a plan to ‘beautify’ its ornamental fountains that adorn eight central enclaves of the main squares, roads and avenues around the town. The deputy mayor, Javier García, explained that the proposed action “will transform one of our main sets of attractions” and went on to explain that the work will focus on the provision of ornamental lighting, in some cases with timers programming options and varying colours. There will also be a renovation and improvement to create effects with different sequences of jets, improvements in gardening and lighting of the overall environment.

Garcia said “Our commitment is to position ourselves as an attractive destination for visitors and, for this it is essential to continue improving the image and aesthetics of our urban spaces,” he also remarked that “this action will not only benefit tourism but also to boost the local economy”.

The plan has commenced at the fountain located in the Luis Puya roundabout, at the junction of Jorge Guillén and Teniente Riera streets, north of San Pedro Alcántara. This installation had seen a lot of deterioration both in the hydraulic elements and in the lighting system. The residents and visitors can now enjoy a completely renewed image. The works included reducing the 12 geysers; the replacement of the central geyser by jet crowns with 9 outlets and the installation of new led lighting. Also, a buried house has been built to house a filter, a pump and the PH control; A grommet has been made towards the drainage box and a new electrical panel has been installed, all adapted to current regulations.

There will be more works taking place at the Las Anclas fountains, on Avenida del Mediterráneo in the Juan Alcántara Gómez roundabout on Carlos Cano Avenue, next to the Paseo Marítimo. Also in the set of fountains and pedestrian walkway at the intersection between Marqués del Duero and Luis Braille avenues, in the Boulevard, and in the Marqués del Duero roundabout and around the Plaza de la Iglesia.

Likewise, enhancement work will be carried out at the Gonzalo Beltrán Cañestro roundabout facilities, at the intersection of Teniente Riera, Gorrión and Santa María streets, in the Pedro Gil roundabout, between Virgen del Rocío avenue and Norberto Goizueta Díaz avenue, and finally, in the west access to San Pedro Alcántara through the Guadalmina link.

The deputy mayor announced that “It is one of the most ambitious beautification plans that have been promoted in recent years and we are convinced that it will represent a qualitative leap in our tourism offer”.
