There is a local gem tucked away behind one of San Pedro Alcántara’s main roads – a sports centre offering a dizzying array of activities for all the family. Council-owned and privately-run, Supera is a centre for San Pedro Alcántara residents, with classes and facilities to suit both young and old.
Open since 2013, the centre fills a 10,000 square metre area and encompasses sports, leisure and health activities both inside and out in its extensive grounds. With a total investment of approximately €10 million, it’s a fabulous amenity aimed specifically at the local community.
Water lovers are well served, with two year-round heated indoor pools and two outdoor pools open during the summer, with a wide variety of classes taking place throughout the week. From simple laps and classes for learners to Aquagym, anyone can have fun messing about in the water. From the 18thMay, the outdoor pools open their gates and the summer fun begins.
Not a fan of water but love outdoor exercise? Supera has it covered – there are four padel courts that can be booked with friends or take some lessons to improve your game.
For fans of indoor exercise, the gym facilities are among the best in the area and feature state of the art equipment, or join classes ranging from beginner level, increasing in intensity to those requiring a greater degree of strength and stamina. Zumba classes ensure fun while working out, with Spin classes taking place in a dark room with booming dance music – becoming fit and healthy doesn’t have to be a chore with this much entertainment on offer!
A godsend for busy parents, Supera also offers summer school options for children from four to fifteen years of age with a diverse and entertaining range of activities. But don’t hesitate too long – the courses are very popular and are booked up quickly.
Parents can treat themselves to a moment of peace and quiet in the adults-only spa within the centre. Relax and unwind in the 165 square metre area equipped with a Jacuzzi, sauna and hot and cold fountains, with no danger of being interrupted by younger family members.
