Sundowners in San Pedro

As the end of summer draws closer and the weather dips to the mid 20s, we have decided to look at the ideal venues in San Pedro for a few ‘sundowners’. The evenings are getting shorter, so it is quite all right to start this activity from 17:00hrs—but then again who are we to judge, if you fancy getting going at 16:00hrs, then why not?

So, what is a sundowner? It is an alcoholic (or non alcoholic) drink taken at sunset.

Over the years it has become quite an in-vogue activity in holiday resorts, so we have looked at five of the best places in San Pedro where you can enjoy this fun thing to do.

1) Guayaba: While it is still open (as it is a seasonal venue), it is the ideal place to grab a cocktail and watch the sun go down. Located directly on San Pedro’s beach it is a chiringuito that is one of the most popular beach bars throughout the summer. In fact, if you fancy a snack with your sundowner, why not see their menu of local food?

2) Kala Kalua: From one end of the San Pedro paseo to the other, this is more of an institution than simply a beach bar. Although not open into the night, you might just be able to catch yourself a sundowner before they close. It is a real treat if you can, as it has undoubtedly one of the best views across the Mediterranean to Gibraltar and Africa than anywhere on the coast.

3) Urban Bistro and Bar: You don’t have to sit on the beach of course to enjoy a sundowner because the still sun goes down wherever you are. Urban has comfortable outside seating and always seems to have a great atmosphere. With a good cocktail, beer and wine menu it is the perfect place to enjoy a drink while darkness descends.

4) NH Rooftop Bar: Now this seems to be a little bit of a secret place because it is not widely known about. The NH Hotel is in the middle of San Pedro, just by the 24hr pharmacy. Head straight up in the lift and you will come to a huge open-air bar right on the top of the hotel. Being so high above the shops and with views across the town towards the sea, it is a fabulous place to sip on a cocktail and watch the sunset.

5) Havana 65: This is a newcomer to the scene but when it comes to cocktails it is by far one of the best! With lots of high stools outside and just at the top of the road in Marques del Duero just before the pedestrian area, you can get fabulous views towards the sea and sunset while you enjoy anything from a classic Hemmingway Mojito to a Green Martini.

There are of course plenty more places to enjoy a sundowner, but we have chosen five of our current favourite places.
