The boulevard that runs through the centre of San Pedro is packed with entertaining diversions for children, with play parks that cater to toddlers through to older kids. What can you do with tweens and teenagers though, who are too cool for play parks?
The San Pedro Town Hall has thought of that – take them do the skate park at the Puerto Banús end of the boulevard! Although it’s lacking in facilities (be warned, there’s no toilets or café so bring snacks if you want to make an afternoon of it), the kids have a great time and can quite happily spend hours zooming around on skateboards, scooters or bikes. Take care, though, older kids can be a little boisterous, so keep an eye on younger family members.
The professionally produced concrete park is made up of two bowls, one larger than the other, as well as various slides and ramps, which no doubt have names in the skater community! There are also metal rails for what I’m reliably informed is called ‘grinding’. Luckily there are several benches along the María Teresa León School side of the park for either spectating or the gathering of teens.
After-school hours are generally when the park is busiest, so it’s a good idea to choose your time wisely if you have a child who’s unsure or unsteady on their wheels. It can get rather frenetic when bigger kid are whizzing about on their BMXs. Also bear in mind that the park isn’t covered, therefore sunscreen is a must in the heat of summer.
Our verdict is that for two and four-wheel fans, you can’t go wrong – it’s free and provides hours of entertainment. We just wish there were more facilities nearby for the parents!
