Saturday morning yoga on the beach with Ana – start the weekend well!

Another great example of the range of activities available in San Pedro Alcántara, a new pop-up yoga class has sprung up by the beach. The brainchild of Ana Mavretic, a yoga teacher with ten years’ experience, the class was started by her in reaction to so many of her regular pupils begging for outdoor yoga sessions.

Ana, originally from Croatia, is an instructor at a number of well-regarded yoga centres in Marbella. She believes in continually expanding her knowledge by taking workshops to deepen her knowledge and range of abilities. She currently teaches Vinyasa Flow, Prenatal and Yin Yoga, although beach yoga is predominantly Vinyasa Flow.

If you are unfamiliar with the discipline, or this style in particular, it refers to an emphasis on correct alignment, breath flow and improving muscular tone, as well as deep stretching.  Vinyasa actually means ‘breath synchronised movement’ so the flow of movements is continuous, moving from pose to pose with each inhale and exhale, helping you to stay present during the session. The classes are intended to be for all ages and experiences, and with Ana’s gentle guidance, moves are adapted to ability.

The setting is, of course, stunning. Exercising on the grass below the palm trees by the seaside promenade in San Pedro with the blue skies above – what could be a better way to start the weekend?

So, how do you join? “I don’t want to oblige anyone to come by charging a monthly membership charge, so I decided on a pay-by-session fee of just €5”, she smiles. “That way, if you don’t feel like making one Saturday, you don’t feel guilty about wasting money!”

If you’ve never tried yoga, or you just want a change and to be out in the fresh air with a like-minded group of people, the classes are every Saturday at 11am next to the L’Unique bar.

Call or Whatsapp Ana on 610 945 811 to book your mat for next Saturday!
