Your Guide to San Pedro Alcantara

The long beachside promenade shaded by tall palm trees and lined with charming eateries is one of San Pedro Alcántara’s most winning features. It’s an area frequented not only by beachgoers, lovers of water sports, swimmers and those who join ‘beach fit’ exercise groups, but the promenade itself is also a favourite of strollers of all ages, sociable groups and romantic couples looking for a nice place with a sea view to enjoy a refreshing drink or meal, as well as joggers, dog walkers, cyclists and many others.

The latter include those who use the publicly accessible exercising equipment in the park that runs along the inner part of the promenade, and not surprisingly the area also plays host to a variety of annual events ranging from music festivals and sports/fitness competitions to one of the yearly highlights – the Noche de San Juan on June 23rd – an evening of high-spirited fun on the beach that features live music, BBQs, dancing and a traditional midnight dip.

With all of this going on it’s good to know that the beach’s sand is good, the facilities – which include public toilets/changing rooms, showers, lifeguards and a steady supply of ice cream vendors – are spot on, and the water is safe and clean. To confirm all of the above, San Pedro’s beach is one of a select few on the Costa del Sol’s abundant collection of beaches that has been awarded with the Blue Flag, Europe’s official quality certificate for clean, safe and well-facilitated beaches.

In short, it means you can plan your San Pedro beach enjoyment with complete peace of mind.
