San Pedro Alcántara will become the world capital of rhythmic gymnastics with the celebration of the Gymnastics Grand Prix on October 26th, 27th and 28th, at the Palacio de Deportes Elena Benítez. The event was presented early this week at the Town Hall by mayor of Marbella, Ángeles Muñoz and the Councillor for Sports, Javier Mérida.
The Grand Prix was established in 1994 and is a well-respected event in the world of rhythmic gymnastics. An annual tournament open to athletes from all over the globe, it consists of a number of stages and takes place in major cities across the world, including Moscow (Russia), Paris, Thiais (France), Brno (Czech Republic), Kiev (Ukraine), Holon (Israel) and this year San Pedro has the honour of being chosen as host for the final stage of this high level event.
The Grand Prix starts on Friday 26th October with official training, Saturday 27th in the morning is the I National Tournament of Teams with the participation of 240 gymnasts from 40 teams from all over Spain. In the afternoon the final competition will take place with the awards ceremony and the proclamation of winners of the Grand Prix Marbella 2018 Tour Final. On Sunday the International Tournament ‘Andalucía Cup’ will be held in the morning (juniors and seniors), with the participation of around thirty gymnasts from around the world and the day will finish with the closing gala of the event.
