San Pedro goes green

St. Patrick ‘s Day is a worldwide celebration of Irish culture that takes place on March 17th. Also known as San Patricio, it is a festival that is celebrated annually to commemorate the death of St. Patrick of Ireland, patron saint of the whole island of Ireland. It is a national holiday in the Republic of Ireland and is celebrated next to the national day of the founding of the republic.

The St. Patrick’s Day parades held in the capitals of Dublin and Belfast, are part of a festival that lasts for five days and is attended by more than one million people. New York however, hosts the world’s largest St. Patrick’s Day celebration, with more than two million people gathering for the city’s grand parade.

It is common practice to drink a pint of Guinness and wear an item of green clothing on St. Patrick ‘s Day – otherwise you risk being pinched! San Pedro and Marbella usually illuminate buildings and emblematic monuments such as the Marbella arch and town hall buildings in green lighting to commemorate the occasion.

St Patrick’s weekend is here and The Hogan Stand, an Irish pub in San Pedro, is celebrating all weekend from Thursday 14th to Sunday 17th with activities on each day. Full coverage of the Cheltenham Festival and Players Championship will also be shown throughout the weekend along with Irish food being served.
