Paint and Sip – a new way to have fun in San Pedro!    

The daily routine of work may mean that for many of us the artistic streak we know we have inside becomes buried, and there just don’t seem enough hours in the day to indulge our more creative urges.

Luckily, the Art Club in San Pedro proffers a solution. Paint and Sip is a concept imported from the USA and Canada, where it has amassed an eager following. The idea has caught on here too, with a growing band of enthusiastic supporters who appreciate the chance to paint in a social atmosphere with no pressure to produce world-class works of art – in fact, the only pressure is to relax and participate in the genial social event.

The twist dreamt up by the Art Club of San Pedro is that no-one is actually aware of what the finished painting looks like! The organisers choose an artwork that is divided into sections. Each participant traces their section onto canvas and goes to work. Even the shades of paint employed are carefully selected to match the artwork, so everyone completes their canvas with the same tones of paint.

The artists happily paint away while sipping – wine is included in the entrance fee, along with all materials and a buffet of nibbles.

The highlight of the evening is the unveiling – as each painter finishes their section, it is placed on the floor in position, gradually revealing the whole painting. What was just an abstract individual canvas becomes a part of the whole, to the delight of all participants!

The finished artwork is then hung together and displayed in the studio window, to be sold at a later date for charity. A great fun evening in good company for a worthy cause, who could ask for more?
