Nueva Alcántara and its restaurants

Nueva Alcantara

Even the San Pedro locals who have been keenly watching the development of Nueva Alcántara in recent years have been pleasantly surprised by the emergence of a lovely cosmopolitan district in the neighbourhood.

The area of Nueva Alcántara, itself a comparably new district of San Pedro Alcántara, begins beneath the south side of the boulevard and continues down to the beach promenade and sea. The whole region has undergone a positive transformation over the past fifteen years with the introduction of cycle lanes, planting of additional trees, new contemporary residential developments and work on the beautiful paseo.

But it’s the area to the north of the locality that lies between Avenida del Mediterráneo and Avenida de Barcelona that has undergone some of the most significant changes and gentrification. The streets in this part of Nueva Alcántara have been welcoming the arrival of many delightful new restaurants and cafés and the area is now continually humming with life.

However it’s not just the appearance of the new dining venues that makes this place a haven for foodies, as several popular and respected eateries have been thriving here for many years. With the mix of the old and the new Nueva Alcántara is fast becoming a centre for excellent cuisine and the perfect place to go for any lunch, dinner or a special celebration.

We’ve covered a few of the best establishments below but we definitely recommend that you visit Nueva Alcántara and choose a restaurant yourself!

The forerunners who lead the way:

Albert y Simon
The pedigree behind the family run Albert y Simon is surely unsurpassed in the area. Originally established by the legendary Benisty brothers who held Michelin stars in their impressive history, this restaurant still maintains its high standards in fine dining today and enjoys a well deserved reputation for quality cuisine and service in San Pedro.

Trattoria L’impronta
This established Italian restaurant, with an interior styled to imply the tranquility and class of an art gallery, is well known in San Pedro for its perfect service, food and atmosphere. First class orders of the day centre around gorgeous fresh produce and handmade pasta served by knowledgeable and professional staff in a unique and elegant setting.

Some of the new kids on the block:

Tanino
Inspired by the original Tanino in Benamara, Estepona, the new Tanino brings an informal modern restaurant experience to the town of San Pedro. Share perfectly cooked steaks, chicken skewers or ceviche whilst enjoying an inventive cocktail – Tanino likes to introduce its customers to their special mixology where they cleverly link cocktails with gastronomy.

Pampita
This Argentinian restaurant doesn’t fail to deliver on its promise to serve delicious dishes straight off the BBQ and some of the best steaks and empanadas in town. A friendly service, happy ambience and a value for money price list ensures that Pampita remains busy and keeps its clients coming back.

Benisty
Established by a new generation of the Benisty dynasty (from the aforementioned Albert y Simon family tree) this beautiful restaurant venue has earned a fantastic reputation for superb food, a well stocked wine cellar and a professional service that their legendary forebears would be proud of.
