The Ronda Road through San Pedro de Alcantara is always very busy with heavy traffic throughout most of the day. Much of the road does not affect pedestrians as it goes through the mountains and countryside. However closer to the town near the San Pedro Poligono (Industrial Park), there are a lot of people either visiting or who work there that need to cross the road, especially as there is a Mercadona Supermarket on the opposite side to the industrial park.
With so much traffic and cars coming from many different directions, it is a bit of a lottery when it comes to crossing the road and very dangerous.
After many years of complaints and even petitions there is some good news ahead for the people that need to cross this road around this point.
The Junta de Andalucía is going out to tender for the contract to construct a footbridge over the A-397 to Ronda near the Poligono.
There is 332,000€ set aside for the project, which has been welcomed by local residents and workers in the area.
Construction work is due to begin sometime in the summer and it is expected to be completed within 6 months.
