San Pedro de Alcantara beaches took another huge step forward in ensuring the safety of its beach dwellers with a brand new orange rescue point and SOS lifesaving aquatic station.
Marbella town hall has now installed orange rescue points on three beaches within the municipality, with San Pedro being one of those beaches. The main reason is to provide additional and enhanced safety for the users of these beaches, especially those that also take to the sea.
Manuel Cardeña who heads up the council for the beaches in Marbella, visited the new installation on San Pedro beach in Marbella and was happy to say “it is in line with what we are promoting to maintain the beaches in good condition throughout the year.
He went on to advise that “the work is so that the public benefits from the new initiatives we have in place which will expand the hours of coverage in terms of safety on our beaches in San Pedro”.
These new orange points will be active 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year and will help to reduce the rescue times for bathers in difficulty and therefore reduce deaths by drowning.
The new rescue points will provide a vest and a lifeline of up to 320 meters, the same height as 3 people, at a speed of 1.5 metres per second. The system has been designed so that anyone can understand it and use it, although additional training is available from the city council, especially for establishments that are on the paseo or very close by.
These orange points have been installed on the beaches of San Pedro Alcántara , La Venus (Marbella) and Cabopino.
