We have already taken a look at the San Pedro Alcántara polígono, or industrial zone, in a previous blog (here), however there are so many hidden gems, we thought it may be an idea to take a closer look at one or two of the businesses who thrive here.
Marbella Tae Kwon Do (TKD) was established by American-born Justin Menchen in 2011 and has built consistently on its success ever since. Starting from modest beginnings, Justin began his teaching career almost by accident. After his son discovered a box of old TKD clothes, including the venerated black belt, he asked Justin to teach him the martial art. Soon his son’s friends were asking for lessons too, and from here began the Marbella Tae Kwon Do journey.
Independent and fully federated for three years, the dojo has lessons for all ages – from four upwards, including adults. It is a martial art that is suitable for everyone, offering great exercise but more than anything instilling vital life skills. The five main principles of Tae Kwon Do are courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self-control and indomitable spirt, making it an ideal discipline for children, helping to nurture self-sufficient, confident adults.
Justin recently had the great pleasure of seeing two of his young students attain Junior Black Belt level after beginning their practice with him right from the start. “It was a great personal satisfaction to see these two girls, who began with me from scratch, rising to such a high level and we hope to see many others following in their footsteps”, he smiles.
“To educate, motivate and demonstrate to our students and the community that no obstacle is too great to overcome if you approach it with confidence, intelligence, persistence, and a positive mental attitude. Personal growth is the goal to which we all aspire, and continue to pursue.”
The Marbella Tae Kwon Do mission is an inspiring one and we hope it continues to go from strength-to-strength.
