Community news for San Pedro residents will remain extremely positive in 2019 due to the recent announcement of increased municipal funding by the Marbella town council. Next year the budget will be raised by 15% to a total of 283 million euros and San Pedro Alcántara will benefit enormously from these additional resources.
Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, gave out details of the new finances, which are due to the arrival of European EDUSI funds, the settlement of debts and the thriving economy on the Costa del Sol. Muñoz stated that the budgets would once again support decentralisation and that more than 20 million euros have been set aside for neighbouring San Pedro town.
Every village and town located close to Marbella will appreciate new amenities and beneficial community schemes that will be established in the resort and its surrounding area. A sum of 31 million euros has been allocated for public works, 1,5 million is set aside for district conservation and there is also funding available to support cultural initiatives.
Amongst the many projects planned is the restoration of the Museo del Grabado and the Trapiche del Prado, investment in a home for the elderly and a new language school. Sporting facilities have been given great consideration and will include the development of an olympic size swimming pool, which will come from a fund of 1,2 million for sports.
For budding musical artists in San Pedro there is great excitement around certain details within the mayor’s statement that involve plans for a new School of Music and Dance in the town itself.
Finally, for those with their eyes on the household budget, IBI property tax will be falling for properties under the Marbella council umbrella, so San Pedro residents will be able to save a few pennies to spend on all the new facilities!
