From 9th until 18th of April, all residents of San Pedro who are registered and over 18 (empadronados) are called to vote on the future pedestrianisation of one of the main commercial arteries into the town: Avda. Marqués del Duero.
In order to participate in the survey, you can vote online, but it is mandatory to have a user account on the municipal website (www.marbella.es), then just follow the instructions at the beginning of the section.
The survey consists of just one simple and direct question:
Do you want Marqués del Duero street to be pedestrian?
With only two possible answers: yes or no.
Amongst others, the town council has given Calle Larios in Málaga centre as one example of a similar pedestrianisation that has been carried out and had a positive effect.
Voting can also be done at the San Pedro town hall office, next to the main church square, Plaza de la Iglesia.
Some of the benefits of a pedestrian street are: less air pollution, a decrease in noise and the area becomes safer, creating greater commercial dynamism. Also, it encourages the use of public transport and cycling. Although the pedestrianisation of the street also has its detractors, the public space recovered from traffic should be put to improved use such as a play area for children, care of the landscape and environmental attractiveness of the centre of San Pedro.
