Free Wi-Fi connection on the beach

wifi san pedroA new Wi-Fi station, setup for free on the main San Pedro Alcántara beach is now operational. Set on the actual promenade more less half way down the boardwalk it is between the area of the ‘Moragas’ (barbecue boat area) and the beach of La Salida. Users can recharge their mobile phones and other electronic devices through the four USB connection ports, as well as via wireless chargers. The Internet connection is available now and will have a range of 40 metres.

Initially destined as a pilot test by the Ayuntamiento de Marbella, it has also been setup at a beach in Marbella (Playa La Fontanilla); the service will provide public Wi-Fi and mobile charging through energy produced by a small solar panel. The free public internet, which has been developed by the city council together with Vodafone as part of the ‘Playas Marbella’ Wi-Fi network, has been optimised to provide connectivity to over 500 people, and both services will work initially until the end of September. By the end of the summer, however, the town council will evaluate the results with a view to including the service in its next budget and proposing a public tender to extend the services along Marbella’s full 20 kilometres of beach promenades.
