The delightful pathway that follows the coast of Málaga province from Nerja to Manilva has just seen the completion of a new section on the border of San Pedro Alcántara. The east end of our seafront promenade has now been officially connected to the area of Ventura del Mar via a wooden walkway, completing yet another 400 metres of the picturesque thoroughfare.
Marbella’s mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, and local councillors visited the development last week to view the work that has also seen the implementation of necessary new sewage infrastructure. Stormy weather conditions had previously caused the old pipes to emerge creating problems – both system wise and aesthetically! The developers have moved the new network of pipes and placed them underneath the walkway.
Waste management news aside, there is so much to enjoy on the pathway 🙂
The Málaga coastal path, officially known as the Senda Litoral, is an exceptional hiking route that passes through fourteen towns on the Costa del Sol. Along with the incredible views of beaches, coastline and sea, the highway is a haven for wildlife where walkers can view marine life, migratory birds and butterflies.
Developers have also installed new lighting, access and exit routes, showers and litter bins on the path, and recent reports detail that the walkway has been created using the same materials applied to build the new Caminito del Rey.
If you are heading out to experience part or all of the pathway, make sure you stop at the concrete bridge that crosses over the river just as you leave San Pedro Alcántara. Take a minute to lean over the railings for a lovely view of mini and large terrapins basking on rocks in the sunshine.
