Fancy something a bit different for Valentine’s Day this year? Surely Día de los Enamorados, the annual day devoted to love, shouldn’t just be the social realm of besotted young couples and diehard romantics.
Perhaps this year we can all spread a general feeling of happiness, afterall the day doesn’t always have to be celebrated as a two person event. So if a night eating dinner in a restaurant alongside 54 other couples really isn’t your idea of fun, then take heart and consider one of our suggestions below.
Picnic at the playa
If this gorgeous weather continues, a daytime excursion to the beach with a hamper could be a lovely outdoor alternative to a restaurant date. Pack a slightly special lunch, like smoked salmon sandwiches, strawberries and a bottle of cava, and head for one of the covered public wooden platforms in front of the promenade. Here you and your loved one (and/or family) can sit taking in the views of Gibraltar and North Africa across the sea, whilst appreciating each other and one of the best settings in San Pedro.
A ‘heart in your mouth’ moment?
For a fun sporting activity that can be tackled as a family or by an adventurous couple in love – either way it’s a thrill a minute at San Pedro’s Cable Ski Club, which is located just a short distance from the centre of town. Learn how to wakeboard and fly high across a series of jumps over a course that allows room for nine skiers at a time.
Finish ‘all par’ on the day
Book an intimate two ball or a double date with four players at the practice facilities of San Pedro’s picturesque golf club. The driving range, bunkers and putting greens at this friendly community venue are a great place to finesse your golfing skills, and you can enjoy drinks and tapas at the bar afterwards.
Passion & paella at Alabardero Beach Club
This one’s for the Valentine’s Day traditionalists amongst us. Owning one of the best locations in town, Alabardero Beach Club is a welcoming traditional Spanish restaurant that specialises in fresh fish and paella. Choose from their Valentine’s Day menu and enjoy a romantic lunch or dinner in the perfect old fashioned way.
Quiz night at The Hogan Stand
For the best collective sentimental fun on Valentine’s Day evening, you should attend the popular Irish hostelry The Hogan Stand, for some amusing pub quizzing with the lovable Hannah Murray. This weeks’ entertaining team quiz night will be Valentine themed – expect less hand holding but much rivalry and laughter.
