Summer’s here, temperatures are rising and the days are stretching long into the evening. San Pedro Alcántara is blessed with a wide stretch of sandy beach and most of us have access to at the very least a communal pool. However if you want a change of pace, to cool off and have some adventurous fun, you need to try the Wakeboard Centre Marbella!
The centre, based on the lake in Las Medranas natural park on the border with Guadalmina, has been entertaining locals and visitors alike since its opening in 1993. It is conceived as a fun way of learning to water-ski, which is achieved through a system of five pulleys that speeds users around a circuit. All the equipment can be rented, so just turn up in your swimming costume and away you go. Beginners complete the circuit on their knees at first (hopefully!) however more proficient visitors can attempt obstacles boasting names such as Kicker, Rooftop, Tubo, Picnic Table and Butterbox. One thing is for sure – there’s no chance of becoming bored here.
You don’t even have to love wakeboarding to visit the centre – although of course it helps! Spectators or companions can enjoy the centre’s other facilities, such as the trampoline, skate ramp or try a far more sedate spot of paddle boarding.
Should all this activity leave you hungry and thirsty, there’s the Redwoods Music Bar alongside the lake. Here you can feast on light bites while enjoying the great range of cocktails on one of the Balinese beds or swinging in a hammock.
Considered one of the best facilities of its kind in Europe, there is entertainment here for everyone, and as the centre is dedicated to improving with each year that passes, the challenges are only set to grow!
