Coronavirus symptoms

We still see lots of Social Media posts from people that are not sure what symptoms they should be looking out for, or what to do if they think they do have one or more of the symptoms.

The first and most important thing to remember is NOT TO PANIC. Many people with the virus get very mild symptoms and most people make a full recovery. It is well publicised that the older generation and those suffering from underlying health conditions are more vulnerable, but again it does not mean it is fatal if you fall into those categories.

Before we move on to the symptoms, while it is not possible to block out the virus, you can do some things to help boost your immune system, so you are in a better position to recover more quickly and cope with it if you do contract it.

Tips to boost immune system

  • Maintain a balanced and healthy diet with a good mix of fresh fruit and vegetables. This will help provide the body with the vitamins and minerals it needs.
  • Consider taking some supplements during this period such as Vitamin C or multi-vitamins to increase your vitamin intake.
  • We know it is difficult during the current lockdown but get some exercise. You might need to be inventive and use things around you. Some people are doing FREE workouts on Facebook so consider doing these to keep you fit. We are bringing you details of some of them via our Facebook page so make sure you are following us.
  • Rest and good sleep are also important to keeping the immune system at its optimum levels. Get at least 6 hours sleep a night, more if you can.
  • If you smoke, it would be a very wise decision to think about stopping right now to maintain better lung functionality.
  • Finally, drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

Covid-19 Symptoms

What we know from people that have had Covid-19 is there can be a range of severity for the symptoms, but the main ones are as follow:

Headache
Fever
Sore throat
Dry cough
Respiratory problems
Lack of energy
Aching limbs

The advice now is if you have ANY of the symptoms, you should self-isolate for 14 days. We are all forced to do this to an extent, but if you are with family members, you will need to stop going to work, if you still are, and not go out at all, if possible.

Depending on the severity of symptoms, because of the huge strain that the health service is under, you should only call the emergency numbers if you are experiencing major health issues such as breathing difficulties. But you should still report cases to the special helpline numbers.

Tests are becoming difficult to get so again it might be that you are not tested.

The Junta de Andalucía has launched a new toll-free telephone number exclusively to deal with coronavirus. If you are in San Pedro de Alcantara, Marbella, the number to call if you think you have Coronavirus is is 900 400 061.

This is operating in addition to the normal number of 955 545 060.

As we mentioned earlier, due to the extremely high volume of enquiries, calls to the 112 and 061 hotlines should only be made in an emergency.
