Age Concern

Age Concern España have been providing much needed support and promoting the well-being of the over 50s in Spain since 1994. They initially started in the Balearic Islands on Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, before establishing branches on mainland Spain in the late 90’s from the Costa Blanca to the Costa del Sol.

Through their network of dedicated volunteers, they provide a range of services to help people with information, advice, and support for common issues that can often affect the over 50s. Whether it’s taking people to the bank, the supermarket, or even the doctors, Age Concern are there to help.

Tom Burns, the President of the newly registered Marbella & San Pedro branch, said that “loneliness can be a big issue for people who have lost their husband or wife, and being able to pick up the phone and ask for help sometimes isn’t easy”.

They are running coffee mornings on the first Thursday of every month at 11am at the Padel Club in Nueva Alcantara, San Pedro, so people can come along for an informal chat and to meet new people and make new friends.

As a charity, Age Concern are always looking for more volunteers to assist with the day to day tasks and activities that people become reliant upon. Of course, donations are the lifeline of the charity, and one of their short-term aims is to buy a mini bus with a disability ramp, so that they can take people out on day trips along the coast.

If you know of anyone who could benefit from Age Concern, or wants to become a volunteer, please do get in touch.
