A motion has been put in place to ask for funds to be allocated towards improving the A-7 motorway on the Costa del Sol by widening it, via the addition of a third lane.
As many will know, this stretch of road experiences traffic jams on an almost daily basis, especially during the summer period, forcing many to avoid it all together. A couple of years ago a tunnel was built under San Pedro to allow the flow of traffic to move at a smother pace. Whilst it has provided a great benefit to San Pedro, with the addition of the Boulevard and alleviating some of the congestion, the traffic problem still remains very much the same.
Therefore, the deputy mayor of San Pedro, Javier Garcia, has put forward a motion to the central government urging them to issue sufficient funds for construction to increase the road capacity and redesign exits between kilometres 172.1 and 174.95. The proposal goes into detail explaining all the safety implications the current situation imposes on drivers and pedestrians, not to mention that soon it will affect the tourism sector and local economy of the area. An average of 90,000 vehicles use the road every single day.
A couple of talked-about solutions are to create a third lane along the A-7 or to make the AP-7 toll road much more accessible by standardising its rates that currently heavily fluctuate depending on the season.
