New app launched to address litter and cleaning problems

The Marbella town hall last month launched a new mobile application/APP called ‘Marbella Clean’ (Marbella Limpia) to address litter and cleanliness problems in Marbella and San Pedro Alcántara. Councillor Diego Lopez and his colleague Baldomero León, presented the app to the general public promising “it will be suitable for different mobile devices and very easy to use”.

“The free APP will allow users to report incidences of cleanliness such as graffiti on walls, litter on the floor, pet waste, dumping of furniture and similar,” said López, who added that “you can even add photos and share the location.”

The service is active from Monday-Sunday between 08:00hrs and 22:00hrs, although the APP is operational 24/7. “In this way, the service receives the notification immediately and proceeds with resolving problems, saving time driving around looking for issues to sort. The user will be able to track when the process is underway and resolved through the app,” said the mayor, who announced that “there will be five vehicles and 20 workers provided with all the necessity equipment to respond quickly: tree cutters, blowers, pressure washers, cleaning liquids, brooms, furniture removal vehicles and garbage containers.”

López stressed that this application “will allow effective and immediate communication between citizens and the hygiene department enabling users to feel part of the community and have a voice on a key issues for the San Pedro. We also intend to channel neighbourhood suggestions and concerns, while also detecting offenders.”
