Benisty is one of the latest editions to what we are calling ‘The San Pedro Strip’
Avenida del Mediterraneo has the pharmacy on the corner, and the big blue and white boat in the middle of the road.
Across the road from Da Bruno’s are the new Los Arqueros Beach apartments, and at ground floor level, there is a strip of fantastic new restaurants opening.
Recently we tried the latest addition Benisty (although upon reading this there is very likely to be a few more). Benisty is a trendy new ‘gastro’ restaurant. It is owned and run by the son Simon Benisty, one half of the San Pedro institution that is ‘Albert and Simon’.
The décor is very modern, with black interior, and subtle pink lighting. They have an extensive wine cellar which is on view, behind a glass screen and temperature controlled for the perfect bottle of wine. The selection of wines includes Spanish, Italian, Chilean, and Argentinian, but to mention a few.
Every dish on the menu was mouth-watering, and it took us a while to decide what to try first.
There is a wide range of starters, as well as a selection of ‘starters to share’. We went for the Tataki of Scallops with roasted cherry tomatoes and mango, as well as the Brie cheese croquette truffle with beetroot mayonnaise. Both dishes were packed full of flavour, and it was nice to have some croquettes that weren’t full of meat (or greasy).
Both of the starters were ‘to share’, so one is plenty between two, we were just feeling particularly adventurous and possibly a little too greedy!
For main course, Hannah chose the grilled Iberian black pork fillet marinated in spices and red curry powder, while PJ opted for the fillet steak with Gorgonzola sauce topped with a carpaccio of roasted pear and a reduction of amontillado (sherry).
Both dishes were stunning, and again, bursting with flavour.
We washed it all down with a lovely Rioja Crianza (reasonably priced at 21 euros although the house red is very good, a Rioja Crianza priced at 18 euros).
Even though we really didn’t need to, we decided to share a pudding and chose the deconstructed cheesecake. We were not disappointed…
The food at Benisty in San Pedro de Alcantara was simply amazing, with immaculate presentation, and great service to match.
We are looking forward to going back, and are certain this is going to become a bit of a regular haunt for us.
There are so many more dishes on the menu we want to try so if you are dining out at Benisty in San Pedro, you may well bump into us at a table near you!
