In recent years we have seen San Pedro Alcántara undergo numerous changes with the addition of the tunnel beneath the town to alleviate the heavy traffic passing through, and the boulevard’s inauguration, which continues to be well maintained and has become a popular meeting point both for tourists and residents. With this rebirth and much-needed modernisation, San Pedro is currently attracting many trendy restaurants, coffee shops and retail outlets, being a quieter and less expensive town to live in compared to many of its glitzy neighbours. However San Pedro is an up and coming place with bags of potential and investment opportunities, while keeping its charming Andalusian authenticity.
Although some might argue that the timing could have been better, the ongoing works and improvements are aimed at improving access and safety. The semi-pedestrianised roads running between the town centre and the boulevard, newly-laid and widened pavements offering far more space to pedestrians, flower planters, new street lighting and signage, updated street furniture, irrigation, electricity and telecommunication infrastructure has also been included in the renovation works.
Among many others, here are some of the latest changes undertaken within the past year:
Calle Andalucía was completely reformed along the street’s entire infrastructure, removing architectural barriers and thus improving mobility. Also upgrading water and sewage systems.
Avenida Marqués del Duero, popularly known to all as the ‘Main Street’, is still undergoing a complete renovation with the new tourist office at the end of the street, currently under construction.
The town’s historical streets are also undergoing changes, with traffic having been redirected in C/Hernan Cortes and C/Pizarro, the cultural centres of the town have been painted, gardening and security improvements, new recycling deposits for paper, glass, packaging and organic deposits at San Pedro’s beach promenade have been set up, new cycling routes upgraded in Avenida del Mediterraneo adding 40 new parking spaces, cleaning of the ‘El Salto del Agua’ pond and last week’s landscaping improvements throughout the Fuente Nueva neighbourhood and the areas of C/ Tolox and C/Adelfas.
Keep up the good work!
